Crookedbeak sailback by Preradkor Crookedbeak sailback by Preradkor
This is Crookedbeak sailback, medium sized predator from planet (moon) Coatlicue. Its colures may be strange, but it lives in violet forests of giant vinetrees, where being violet makes good camouflage. Violet forests are similar to combination of Earth rainforests and coral reef. Many species of alien Blueplants and crystalplants at every colures, gets energy from light. Usually black termophytes, from heat. Many species of alien mushrooms and settled animals eats forest bedding or catch larves of others settled animals and crystalplants floating in thick humid air. Not settled animals runs through the forests and eats other creatures and each other. It all creates jungle, full of life but built from different alien life forms. It the most humid regions giant vinetrees are dominant life forms. They are about 100 meters high, mushroom shaped plants. Their canopy creates almost solid wall over the forest. Under them is always strange violet twilight. It is typical sailback environment. Their hide between vinetrees stalks, and waits for smaller animals passing by. However cephalothoraxids usually use electro-location to sense, claved predators, prefer to stay “invisible” and rarely emitting electric field. They stay hidden, and only “hearing“ electric fields of other cephalothoraxids. It lets them detect prey sometimes even few seconds, before they become spied. They also use four large eyes and hearing to hunt for not cephalothoraxid animals. They can detect electric fields around predatory cephalothoraxids, but can’t create their own. That’s mean they can’t see through vinetrees stalks, and are much easier prey for ambushed sailbacks. But it has also disadvantages for sailbacks. With electro-location turned off, they can be surprised by other predators or accidently run out from hide, straight to the much bigger animal they suspected.
Their front legs are extremely strange, they are not tentacles, but scissor like claws. The strangest feature of them is they are very asymmetrical. Right claw is long, and used for capture prey, left is shorter, but much stronger, used for cutting prey for pieces. Jaws are strongly rotated so right claw is over the left. That’s mean left mandible on the base of right claw, makes something like upper jaw, and left is the lower jaw. It is one of very few species on Coatlicue, which jaws open almost vertically, like Earth vertebrates.
All sailbacks belly and legs except feet are covered by fur. Back is bold but animal have two enormous sails on it. The bigger, on cephalothorax is collapsible. Sailbacks put it up and down many times and very fast only to demonstrate their size and force. They never walk with open sails. Males have blue spots with white middles, which are clearly visible in forest twilight, when creature flapping the sail. Sail on abdomen can’t be collapsed. Creature have strong legs, which let them to run very fast, but only on short distances. Long abdomen help them guide while running. They weight about half tone.

Under the picture are three sketches shows how its claws look from front and above, and how look collapsed sail.

Sorry for my English… It’s not very good, I know. This text wasn’t corrected by anyone, but wrote only by myself. Probably some sentences look very strange and have errors...

These creatures are carbon based, like us. Although in some of their alien metabolic patchways they use very many toxic for us substances like for example hydrogen cyanide, potassium cyanide. Also very many of molecules in their body contain arsenic, while essential for us Phosphorus is toxic for them. They are also vulnerable for many ingredient of our body.
There is also civilization on this planet, known as velorans and humans will learn, that ethanol vapour is chemical weapon suprisingly efficent for them (causing immediate death in very low concentration, while it is harmless for humans). Of course velorans use cyanides in the same way aganist humans.

And answer for your question. If you burn silicon based creature, probably you will recieve some kind of glass, but i think that it will be very "dirty" glass miserable quality. But I can't be sure. I had never burned silicon based alien. :-)
But Silicon is less reactive than carbon and has less compounds than it. It is much worse element of life than carbon. I seen documentary film that showed possible silicon based alien organisms. They were something like crystallic trees, which growed extremally slow (centimeters for thousand earth years). So it is better to be carbon based :-)

If these creatures are sillicone based, If they die and burn in a fire would it become glass and sand rather than ash and charcoal?

I quite like this one! Seems like a good mix between vertebrate & arthropod characteristics. :D
