Titanobestia of Ullr and goats of Utu

Titanobestia is biggest creature on Ullr. Its shape resembles Brachiosaurus, giraffe or elephant from Earth, but unlike big earth herbivores it has not elongated neck or nose, but whole skull. Its skull is mostly empty and very light, like toucan beak, but it have hard walls and Titanobestia can use its head like hammer, when it fights or defending itself from predators. Most of Titanobestia head volume is filled by empty resonance chamber, what lets creature roar strangely and very loud. Only in the basal part of head are parts of its middle lung and start of its enormous fermentation-chamber stomach, what occupy almost half of creature body volume. Creature brain what is also in head is surprisingly small.

Titanobestia walks in flocks containing one to three dozen of specimen, similarly to Earth elephants, but unlike elephants this creature is very stupid, with froglike or insectlike intelligence. Their brain in their colossal body is about the size of dog brain, what is ridiculously small. Titanobestia has biggest known compound eyes from all known creatures, and it is believed that with so complex compound eyes, resolution of their view is comparable to view of earth vertebrates and cephalopods. But it is known that Ullr creatures can distinguish only two colors (infra red and yellowish orange).

Titanobestias migrates twice a year between northern to southern areas of Ullr chasing planet summer and feeds on plant like organisms in the places where plants growing season is in full.

Titanobestia ribs and both pectoral girdles are hardened and forms almost turtle shell under Titanobestia skin. It protects creature from predators (in fact adult Titanobestias has no enemies), and because Ullr vertebrates have metallic bones, shell of Titanobestia can be compared to tank armor and creature is very hard to kill.

Titanobestia is much bigger than “whales” of Ullr, because snowlands and equatorial taiga-like forests of Ullr occupy much more space than Ullr small Equatorial Ocean. Ullr have more water than Earth, and probably closer to its star it could became oceanic planet, but most of water on planet is frozen, often since eons.

Expolorer-suits are made mostly of artificial muscles, what are placed similarly like in human body. Suit detects movements of human muscles and copies these movements on its own, but with much higher limit of strength. That’s mean pilot of explorer suit can move and work with superhuman agility. Explorer suit is also hermetic and keeps constant environment inside with comfortable temperature, air pressure and atmosphere composition. Suit is very hard to breakthrough or damage by chemicals and can works in diversified environment. That’s mean its cost is huge, but it provide absolutely everything, human explorer can need in unknown environment of alien planet. Suit has also possibility to install shotgun on its shoulder (targeting system is coupled with eye movements, shooting system can be programmed varying way, but most people prefer just hand trigger), gun can provide protection to pilot, but most explorers use it just to hunt on the most strange looking alien fauna they find.
Only weakness of this suit is that it is elastic, so don’t protects from impact. For example if man in that suit would be hit by bullet, suit wouldn’t get damaged, but man inside will probably die. Military version is similar but with hard armor layer over the artificial muscles. There is also ability to program suit to jump out from bullets way, but speed of these moves can break pilots bones and suit can sometimes jump with no reason, so this function is very rarely used even when should be.
Human explorers sometimes appear on Ullr, but planet would never be colonized. It has just inappropriate environment for humans.


On page below there are two species of goat descendant from fallen colony of planet Utu 11 million years in the future. Goat is one of domesticated animal species, what if run free, easily become feral and can survive without human care. So in future three quarters of herbivorous mammals on Utu, would be antelope like, goat descendants.

Animal, what stay on the branch on the left of the picture is one of tree goat species. These small, rabbit size ruminates are fully arboreal, and runs on tree branches with equal grace as chamois or ibex on rocks. It grazes on tree leaves and spends whole life in tree canopies, like monkey.

Big white animal on right is razorback hugegoat. It is goat descendant about a size of columbian mammoth, adult buck can weight over 10 tons. It has crest on its back, made of semi fused spinous processes (what all ruminates have rater long). It has also very long and sharp, directed forward horns, what are used like lances when animal charge. Despite their enormous size, hugegoats are hunted by dragoncats, and must have ability to protect them efficiently. In fact many older specimens carry cicatrices made by dragoncat claws and fangs in fights long ago. Beside dragoncats only human made traps can hunt hugegoats.
